Private I, Public Eye

2001. Video (7minutes).

The figure of a Butoh dancer dancing slowly and eyes peering through the slit. Soon you will realize that the gaze is that of the Butoh dancer.

His gaze, which becomes more intense with time, seems to be directed aggressively at the viewer.

However, he is not looking at anything because he is in a state of perfect selflessness.

This video work is about awareness of the other.

ゆっくりと踊る舞踏家の姿とスリットの向こうから覗き見る目。やがてそのまなざしは舞踏家のものであることに気付くだろう。

時間の経過とともに益々激しくなる視線は、攻撃的に鑑賞者に向けられているように思える。

しかし、彼は何かを見ているわけではない。なぜなら、彼は無我の境地にあるからだ。

他者に対する意識をテーマにしたビデオ作品。
